Spring is here – the cherry blossoms are out, covering the streets with delicate, bright petals and softening the air with their delicious floral freshness. This marks my first spring season in Vancouver and I am completely enamoured with all the blooms and lushness surrounding me.
It’s time to shake off the grey winter and open up with the season. Incorporating Maca powder into smoothies, drinks and snacks is a great way to uplift and energize. Maca is a nutritional powerhouse! It is a ancient root grown in the Peruvian Andes that provides protein, fiber, numerous essential fatty acids, Vitamin C & D, Vitamin A, B1, B2, B3, iron, magnesium, copper, zinc, calcium and many more. See what I mean?? This amazing plant doesn’t mess around! As if that wasn’t awesome enough, Maca is also an adaptogen, part of a rare family of plants that have a normalizing, balancing effect on the body. Adaptogens enhance the body’s resistance to stressors, supporting and rejuvenating body systems to bring about a healthful balance. So get it in you! A teaspoon added to drinks or smoothies is a good start. I’ve created this smoothie recipe as a nice and simple way to introduce you to the beautiful benefits of Maca. You can most likely find it at any organic grocer in its raw powdered form.
